Happy Fall

I love this time of year....sweaters, pumpkins, scarecrows, beautiful leaves, and the list could go on and on. A little girl in my Sunday School class Sunday said," My mom won't let us celebrate Halloween because people are celebrating the dead." Well I agree somewhat and the little girls mother is from the Congo so it may be more frightening. I told her I did not celebrate the dead I just celebrated the candy. I love seeing all of the cute costumes and the little people. There are some very disturbing Halloween displays on my street...these people are celebrating the dead and ugly. I choose to celebrate the fact that I will have enough candy on hand for any sugar hangover I may need in the weeks surronding Christmas Village. So go forth and celebrate Autumn and the glorious display of God's love in the beautiful colors of the trees. I am going to go and have another cup of hot chocolate...Yeah!

I just put the little sweetie to bed and she told me again about the little boy at church that said there is no tooth fairy. She said, "It's dad isn't it.He comes in here while I am asleep. No actually it is probably you." I told her she was very smart and to go to sleep. The 8 year old still actually believes in the tooth fairy, but the 4 year old has already figured the whole thing out. Jaden told me a couple of years ago that he saw the tooth fairy and she looks just like me. I told him he was exactly right that the tooth fairy did indeed look just like me. Then he added, "But she is very very little." Well I tried. Kind of. When I was little I didn't like Santa Claus freaked me out thinking that someone could get into our house while my parents were sleeping. I did believe in the tooth fairy. I also believed in the Sand Man. I actually thought I caught a glimpse of him one night in my room in Bay, Arkansas. He looks like a cat burglar with a big bag of sleepy sand on his back. I think I came up with him because I had dreadful allergies and when I would wake up I couldn't open my eyes because of the dried matter. Gross I know but you can see how I thought there might be a Sand Man and I was 6. Oh Mr. Sand Man bring me a dream make him the cutest that I've ever seen. Well I have that too. Except the Sand Man didn't bring him God did. I'm not sure who started all of these things for kids, but I do know that when you have something scary happen to you like teeth falling out it is fun to think about the money under your pillow that shows up the next morning...no matter who brings it. I tell the kids often that somethings are just fun to think about but God and the Bible are real. So go and think about something fun and then thank the Lord for giving you an imagination and a sense of humor.

Last close up with all her baby teeth "This thing is squeezing my arm"Had to lay on the floor with her and watch the Disney channel to keep her still.Those roots look a little scary to me...glad they gave her something so she wouldn't remember this experience...she did tell me when they were through it didn't hurt.Well we made it through! Sophie did great. She is sleeping off her happy juice right now. They gave her the medicine and we had to keep her calm for 45 minutes. They took her back and were only gone about 15 minutes.

She walked back like she owned the place and when they brought her back the first thing she did was show us her new snazzy plastic orange heart stone set in a beautiful silver plastic setting. We were told to give her milkshakes, jello, ice cream, and anything else she wanted for a couple of days. Wonder if they would pull a couple of mine? Jerry asked her how much she thought she would get from the tooth fairy. She said, "Ten dollars." And then she said, " Well, ten dollars or ten pennies." Then she added, "Maybe ten coins." I hope the tooth fairy can carry ten dollars in coins. The dental assistant asked Sophie if she was going to get $10.00 per tooth. I jumped right in and said NO. Let's not get crazy here people I had to pay alot for the happy juice and for them to take those suckers out. So glad Jerry went. I was able to sit in the back of the van and hold her all the way home. She of course will not remember any of it but I will. I'll just go ahead and admit I was a little scared last night about the whole thing. God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power had to be repeated by me repeatedly through the night. I think I shall go and curl up next to my sleeping pumpkin doodle and take a little nap:)

Wednesday ponderings

Have you ever wanted to walk around Wal Mart barefoot? I felt like it today it is October 15th and HOT! I don't necessarily want to walk around and get filthy I just don't feel like wearing shoes today. My shoes are making me feel stuffy. Sooo Wal-Mart is the only place that I wore them today. We are supposed to get a cold front through here tomorrow and have pleasant temperatures the rest of the week.

Sophie is going to have 4 teeth extracted in the morning at 8 a.m. so pray for her, her parents, the dentist and all the dental assistants. I hope the happy Kool Aid works for her sake and theirs. She is my intense child and if she feels pain they will too. She is really a sweetheart most of the time it is just that 2% of the time that I am worried about for tomorrow. Jerry took off work to go with us. YEAH! I went to the library today and picked out 20 books for us to lay around and read the rest of the day tomorrow....I also think a nap will be in our schedule...YEAH again!

In the same complex with the library is the election commission office so I ran down and early voted. Feel much better now...my voice has been heard. Sophie and I went to lunch at Whitt's and then on to our favorite thrift store here in town. I found a few treasures. A pink jacket for Sophie that she just adored, a beautiful scarf from Pier One that still had the tags on it, a black and white Silk Land jacket for next spring, and a cool skirt that goes with my Pier One find. Then I dropped her off to play with her Grands while I picked Jaden up from school. After we left school we went grocery shopping. So busy, busy day of running.

Pumpkin Carving and Toasted (scorched) Pumpkin Seeds

My whole family is at my house today. Mom, Dad, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 2 nephews, 1 niece and my brood...12 of us. Dad and Mom bought the little kids pumpkins to carve. G and F where the supervisors of this project. The result was very cute and they had a great time doing it. Everyone commented on the pumpkin seeds so I decided to try to toast them. I found a recipe that said to bake them at 300 degrees for 30 minutes. So I did. They were not done. I put them back in the oven for another 20 minutes. They still were not done so I turned the broiler on and left them in for 2-3 minutes and when I rounded the corner to get them out I saw smoke:( Oh well even the best ideas sometimes don't work out. The pumpkins are still precious sitting with their little candles on my front porch. Maybe next year the seed thing will work out. Then again maybe I should just go to Wal Mart and buy a pack... that way my house won't have this nasty scorched smell that is stuck in my nose and the air around me.

Another episode of "What Genius Came Up With This"

Really. Somebody got paid big bucks for this concept. It took me a minute to realize they were trying to sell snacks. I immediately thought of Lance Bass. Sorry. Well, I guess it made me look. If dude sits down on his crackers they will not be fit to eat. Can you tell this whole thing bothers me?

Surprise

While brushing Sophie's teeth this morning I found this surprise in her mouth. I immediately called the dentist and she goes for her cleaning Friday morning. They will have to extract the baby tooth sometime soon...not Friday. She is 4 and did not get her baby teeth extremely early so I am not sure why they are so anxious to come through. Jaden's first baby tooth broke through when he was 3 months old. He lost his baby teeth a little early...she on the other hand was normal on getting her baby teeth. The receptionist said not to worry that they see this every day. I, however, do not see this every day so I freaked! It brings back memories of Andrea and the Bianator appliance she had to wear when she had four top baby teeth come out and only 2 adult teeth could come in. The bianator pushed all of her teeth out so there would be room for the other teeth to come in. Not fun! She did write a song about it though... " Bianator it's not a retainer." Good stuff sis...it's a classic.
