Allergy update

Sophie had a visit to the allergy doctor today. We found out she was allergic to eggs when she was one. Her doctor told us to stay away from peanuts, peanut butter, and seafood until she was five. So today we had her rechecked.

We had great news, good news, and bad news.

The great news is she is not allergic to peanuts or fish. She has been released to eat those things now. Sophie has never tasted peanut butter before.

The good news is that the egg allergy may be going away...we had to go and get blood work done after we left the allergist to find out the levels. By the way Sophie was a superhero today...just a few tears while the test was being administered...22 pricks...ouch! She amazed me getting her blood drawn...not a peep. She sat in my lap and held out her arm, then she turned her head towards mine and just let them do the work. When they were done she said," That wasn't so bad." I tried to prepare her for everything but with her intense personality you never know how she is going to react. She did AWESOME!

The bad news is that she is allergic to treenuts. Extremely allergic to cashews. So no cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, or pistachios. We went and picked up the epi pens right after leaving the lab. Everyone has now had their epi pen training. Grandpa Hootie of course is scared to death and does not want to babysit anymore:)!
I called to tell Jerry the update and he told Soph that she could have peanut butter and grahams for supper. When we were almost home she said, " I can't wait to taste peanut butter for the first time. I wonder what it tastes like." I told her, "Like nothing you've ever tasted before."
She did get some for supper. Took about two bites and then wanted something else. She liked it I think it was just not what she was in the mood to have for supper. We ate at grandma's and there were lots of other things on the table.

Below are random shots that we took trying to amuse ourselves while waiting the 15 minutes it took for the test to be completed.

Sophie, you're my hero!

I got squeamish just looking at her back. Glad to know she can now eat PBJs!

Love the blue tongue.
